State troopers arrested a Kearney man with a blood alcohol level alleged to be nearly three times the legal limit after a short pursuit on Interstate 80 near Lincoln on Wednesday.

Drivers called 911 around 6 p.m. to report a black SUV speeding and driving recklessly eastbound on Interstate 80 near Lincoln, said Nebraska State Patrol spokeswoman Deb Collins.

Around 6:04 p.m., a trooper spotted a black 2002 GMC SUV speeding near the I-80/I-180 interchange in Lancaster County, Collins said.

The trooper tried to pull the SUV over, but it allegedly continued to speed, weaving in and out of traffic, Collins said. The SUV driver allegedly tossed a beer bottle out of his window during the pursuit.

Within two minutes, troopers boxed in the SUV and brought him to a stop, Collins said. Troopers then forced the driver from his vehicle after he allegedly refused to exit.

A blood alcohol test on the driver,  Douglas Holtmeier, 49, of Kearney, resulted in a BAC of .253, nearly three-times the legal limit of .08, Collins said.

Holtmeier was arrested and jailed on suspicion of flight to avoid arrest, willful reckless driving, driving under the influence, resisting arrest and having an open container.
