Women's golf team earns 3rd straight regional
BY LINCOLN JOURNAL STAR
The Nebraska women’s golf team earned a third straight NCAA Regional bid Monday.
The Huskers, coming off a sixth-place finish at the Big 12 Championships, received the No. 17 seed in the NCAA Central Regional, which will be played in Austin, Texas, May 8-10.
Nebraska was one of six Big 12 teams to get spots in the 63-team regional fields, joining Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Texas, Missouri and Oklahoma.
“I’m very relieved, and I know our team is pretty excited about getting into the tournament,” coach Robin Krapfl said. “We were probably one of the last two or three teams into the tournament, but we know the course in Austin and we have been there this year, so we’ll hope to use that knowledge to our advantage.”
** SOFTBALL: Nebraska begins a busy final week of the regular season with a make-up game today at 4 p.m. against Iowa State at Bowlin Stadium. The Huskers will be looking to snap a five-game conference losing streak that began with a 14-3 setback at Iowa State on April 15.
** BOWLING: Former Nebraska Shannon Pluhowsky remained undefeated after two rounds of match play in the United States Bowling Congress Queens. Pluhowsky, the top seed in match play, finished as the high qualifier after 15 games. She defeated former Husker teammate Diandra (Hyman) Asbaty of Chicago, 703-603, before knocking off Mandy Wilson of Dayton, Ohio, 669-585.
