NU news: Coatman tied for 11th at Big 12 golf

MEN’S GOLF: Freshman Mike Coatman was tied for 11th place, and the Nebraska men’s golf team moved into eighth place in the team competition midway through the Big 12 Championships at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas.
Coatman, a Lincoln Southwest graduate, was tied for second after a first-round 2-under-par 70. In the second round, he shot a 75 to finish with at 145. NU’s Trent Price was at 9-over 153 and was tied for 36th.
Oklahoma State leads the team competition with a 567. The Huskers have a 603 total.
The third round will be played today and the final round Sunday.
WOMEN’S GOLF: The Nebraska women shot a 326 and are fifth after the first round of the Big 12 Championships in Stillwater, Okla.
Senior Elli Brown led NU with an 80, tying for 13th. “These greens were the fastest we have ever played on,” coach Robin Krapfl said.
“The course played unbelievably tough for everybody and obviously that showed in the scoring. Oklahoma State played really well on their home course to take control of the tournament, but considering our scores, we are in a pretty good position heading into the second round.” Oklahoma State leads with a 303.
MEN'S TENNIS: The Nebraska men’s season ended Friday with a 4-0 loss to Baylor in the Big 12 Championships in College Station, Texas. Sendttila Bucko clinched the match for Baylor with a 6-4, 7-6 victory against Renato Melo at No. 5 singles. After winning the doubles point, Baylor took the first three completed singles matches, at Nos. 4, 5 and 6, and the remaining singles matches weren't finished. ... For the seventh straight year, the Nebraska-Kearney men have been selected to play in the 16-team Northwest/West Super Regional Tournament, set for May 5-7 in Petaluma, Calif.
