Cyclones blast NU in Ames

Iowa State scored 11 runs in the sixth inning Tuesday to earn a 13-4 come-from-behind win against Nebraska in Ames, Iowa.
The victory by the Cyclones marked the first Big 12 run-rule win against the Huskers since 2001.
The win snapped the Huskers’ conference-leading streak of 139 games without a run-rule loss in league play.
It was also the most runs NU has allowed in one inning since the 2001 season.
Iowa State (26-19, 3-6 Big 12) sent 11 batters to the plate in the sixth and every one scored.
Iowa State had eight hits in the game and made three errors.
The Huskers finished with seven hits.
Charissa Carlin earned the win in relief, pitching just two-thirds of an inning.
Alex Hupp had a no-hitter through three innings. Iowa State’s Kelsey Kidwell singled to break it up in the fourth.
Nebraska took a 1-0 lead when junior Crystal Carwile doubled in the top of the fourth. A ground-out by freshman Kelli Linke moved Carwile to third. Freshman Julie Brechtel then singled, scoring Carwile.
Carwile was 2-for-3, with a double and home run for NU.
Molly Hill took the loss, giving up six hits in 12/3 innings.
The two teams will play again Thursday at 5 p.m. at Bowlin Stadium.
