Authorities say fires that destroyed two cars in Gaslight Village early Wednesday morning were arson.

A man looked out the window of his house around 5 a.m. and saw one of his cars on fire in the driveway, Lincoln Fire Inspector Chuck Schweitzer said. Shortly after that, a second car in the driveway started on fire. Firefighters were called to the house, on the 200 block of Blue Flame Road, near North First Street and Cornhusker Highway.

A couple of explosions took place in the cars before the fires, Schweitzer said. The 1991 Camaro and 1999 Ford Crown Victoria were a total loss, with an estimated $2,500 damage between them. The fires also caused minor damage to the outside of the house. No one was injured.

Inspectors determined the cause of the fires was arson. Authorities are asking anyone with information about the fires to call police.
